Tree houses in France: wake up in the treetops, ten minutes from the ocean

Eleven tree houses in France, perched in century-old oaks, seven kilometres from the Atlantic. Dihan is Brittany’s pioneer tree house hotel: rustic cabins, luxury spa treehouses with private jacuzzi, and a romantic Lov’nid under the stars. From 135€ per night, breakfast hoisted to your door.

Three tree house experiences to choose from

There are three distinct ways to sleep among the branches, depending on whether you’re chasing adventure, romance or a touch of quiet luxury.

Perched Hut

Sleep in the trees with your partner, family or even friends? Adventure guaranteed at our Treehouse Hotel. Spend a night perched high up in a simple tree house, with the promise of getting in tune with nature. A memory you won’t soon forget…

Lov'Nid

This round, all-wood treehouse is dedicated to romance. A large 2m round bed for cocooning inside an all-white sphere, portholes overlooking nature and a zenithal opening onto the stars will make your lov’nid a real cocoon for sleeping in love in the trees.

Luxury Spa Hut

A cabin in Brittany with all the luxuries of space and nature, tea snuggled up under a plaid as the mist rises over the countryside, the feel of the wood beneath your feet as you gather the first ray of sunshine, stepping into the hot water of the jacuzzi with a cup in hand… A dream of a night in a tree.

Perched cabins for a true Robinson Crusoe night

These are the originals. Wooden huts nested in the oaks, reached by staircase, monkey bridge or, for the most daring, a semi-rigid harness. No running water, no electricity, dry composting toilets. Just the trees, the stars, and the sound of an owl settling on the roof.

Seven cabins make up the collection. Nijal, the highest at ten metres, is for those who want to feel the sway of the canopy. You clip into a harness and climb. Sterenn, built around a centenary oak, welcomes up to five guests through a barrel-shaped entrance. Neh Er Lenn, perched at eight metres above a quiet pond, is reserved for adults only.

Prices start at 135€ per night for two, breakfast included, delivered each morning by a rope-and-pulley system straight to your terrace. That detail alone is worth the trip.

Luxury spa tree houses with private jacuzzi

Dihan’s four luxury spa cabins deliver what the estate calls le luxe simple, luxury made of simplicity.

En Ty fits up to four guests, with a jacuzzi on the terrace and a kitchenette tucked inside. Dremmwel, the most spacious, offers panoramic views over the estate’s pond and is fully accessible by ramp, a rarity among tree house stays in France. Ehan and Neizh complete the collection, each with private bathroom, underfloor heating and hot tub under the branches.

From 270€ per night, with bathrobes, towels and breakfast for two included.

The Lov'nid, a romantic nest under the stars

A wooden sphere, suspended five metres above the ground, with a round bed over two metres wide, portholes looking out onto the forest and a zenithal opening directly onto the night sky.

Designed for couples, it has become a favourite for marriage proposals, anniversaries and Valentine’s getaways. There is nothing else quite like falling asleep watching the stars drift overhead through the canopy. Rates range from 145€ to 165€ per night.

France’s pioneer tree house hotel, born from a childhood dream

Dihan began as an old farmstead in Ploemel, in the Morbihan region of southern Brittany. Myriam and Arno, a couple driven by wanderlust and a deep love for their land, transformed it into something that didn’t quite exist yet in France: a place where you could sleep among the trees, properly, with nothing between you and the canopy but wooden walls and open sky.

Dihan, in Breton, means the pause. And that’s precisely what the estate offers. No cars on site. No rush. Just 25 hectares of woodland and meadow, an old stone farmhouse with a piano in the lounge, family portraits on the walls, and eleven tree houses perched between five and ten metres above the ground.

Every cabin carries a Breton name. Nijal means to fly. Heol, the sun. Sterenn, a star. Each one tells a small story before you even step inside.

What makes a tree house stay at Dihan unforgettable?

What sets Dihan apart from other tree house stays in France is everything that surrounds the cabins.

The estate is entirely car-free. Once you arrive, you walk. Children run across the meadow to visit the donkeys, horses and sheep. Parents slip away to the Spa by Dihan, a 75-square-metre haven carved into the old stone barn, with a traditional hammam, Finnish sauna and private massage sessions. The lap pool is lined in larch wood, the cafe lounge serves local produce and organic cider from Carnac.

In the evening, there’s no restaurant to rush to. A warm dinner basket arrives at your cabin: starter, main course, dessert and wine, all sourced locally. Or you uncork a bottle from the Dihan apero basket, local sausage, crisps, a biodynamic cider, and watch the sun drop behind the trees from your terrace.

The mornings are just as considered. Breakfast hoisted to your door by pulley, the quiet creak of wood as the day warms, a walk through the permaculture garden before checkout. It’s slow tourism at its most genuine.

Your tree house in France, ten minutes from the ocean

One thing most tree house hotels in France cannot offer is the sea. Dihan can.

The estate sits between some of Brittany’s most striking landscapes. The megaliths of Carnac, over six thousand standing stones aligned across the heath, are a ten-minute drive. The wild dunes of Erdeven and the rugged Quiberon coast are just as close. The Ria d’Etel, a tidal inlet beloved by kayakers and oyster farmers, winds quietly to the west. Vannes and the Gulf of Morbihan, with their islands and medieval streets, are twenty minutes south.

Kitesurfers head to the coast. Families cycle the coastal paths. And at the end of the day, everyone returns to the trees.

Plan your tree house getaway in France

Dihan welcomes guests all year round. The estate is open in every season, with wood-burning stoves and gas heaters available from October to March. A two-night minimum stay applies.

Arrival is between 4pm and 7pm, departure before 11am, but the estate remains yours for the full day. An extra guest costs 25€ per night for anyone over three years old. Gift vouchers start at 210€ and are valid for eighteen months, a perfect way to offer someone a night they won’t forget.
